CGI Door Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
CGI door installation in Los Angeles typically runs between $900 and $1,600 fully installed, depending on the specific part, your door’s frame condition, and whether we’re replacing hardware, glass, or the full slab. We stock CGI-compatible door components on our service trucks and can usually complete a standard installation the same day we arrive. Most Los Angeles homeowners discover they need this work after years of coastal air and hard sun have done their work: a roller binds, a hinge sags, or a bottom sweep finally tears away from the door edge. You’ll notice it first as a sticky open, a visible gap at the threshold, or a squeak that WD-40 stops for about a week.
Juniper Windows & Doors is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with CGI, but we install and service their products daily across Los Angeles, from Silver Lake to Westchester to the Valley.
Which CGI Models This Applies To
CGI doors fall into a few broad families, and the part you need depends on which one you have. The most common lines we work on across Los Angeles are the Estate Collection, the Sentinel Series, and the Targa Series. Estate doors tend to use heavier extruded aluminum frames with snap-in weather stripping. Sentinel is CGI’s impact-rated workhorse, which means tighter gasketing and reinforced hinge points. Targa uses a slimmer profile, so the glass pack dimensions differ from the Estate even when the door opening is identical. If you don’t know which series you have, check the hinge-side door edge or the top corner of the door panel for a small white label with the model number. If the label is long gone, snap a photo of the door corner where the two gaskets meet and we’ll identify it at the estimate.
For CGI parts specifically, we recommend OEM hardware whenever the door carries an impact rating. Aftermarket equivalents are fine for cosmetic pieces like sweeps and weather stripping, but impact-rated doors rely on factory-spec hinges and lock sets to keep their wind-borne debris certification meaningful. That’s a compatibility gotcha a lot of Los Angeles homeowners don’t hear until after a cheap hinge swap voids their insurance discount. The other one: CGI glass packs are series-specific. Estate glass will not seat correctly in a Sentinel frame, even when the width and height match on paper. The difference is in the gasket channel depth.
Signs Your CGI Door Installation Is Failing
Here’s what we see most often on service calls around Los Angeles, and what each symptom usually points to:
- The door scrapes the threshold when opening, but only on warm afternoons. Aluminum expands with heat, and on west-facing doors in neighborhoods like Sherman Oaks or Culver City, the extra afternoon expansion eats up whatever clearance was originally set. The fix is usually a hinge adjustment, but if the frame has shifted, it needs re-shimming.
- Condensation appears between the glass panes in the morning. That means the insulated glass unit has lost its seal. Los Angeles doesn’t get the extreme cold that accelerates seal failure elsewhere, but the temperature swing between cold coastal nights and hot inland days still does the job over 10 to 15 years.
- The handle turns but the latch doesn’t fully seat into the strike plate. This is almost always a sagging hinge or a worn multi-point lock gearbox. If you push the door tight with your hip and the latch aligns, it’s the hinges. If not, the gearbox itself is tired.
- You can see daylight at the top or side edge of the door when it’s closed. Worn weather stripping or a shifted frame. The light itself is cosmetic, but the air exchange is money, and in impact-rated doors the gasket also contributes to the debris seal, so it’s worth fixing before storm season.
- There’s a long vertical crack in the door panel near the lock hardware. We see this on older aluminum slab doors where years of hard closes have fatigued the metal at its thinnest point. It’s not typically a structural hazard, but water gets in and starts rot in the core.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
For CGI door installation across Los Angeles, here’s the honest pricing spread we give on the phone before we ever roll a truck:
- Bottom sweep or weather stripping replacement: $45 to $120 installed
- Hinge adjustment or replacement (all three hinges): $80 to $160 installed
- Multi-point lock gearbox replacement: $190 to $290 installed
- Full slab replacement (door panel only, standard size, no glass): $900 to $1,300 installed
- Full slab replacement with insulated glass unit (impact-rated glass): $1,100 to $1,600 installed
- Complete door and frame replacement: $1,400 to $2,000+ installed, depending on opening size and finish
What drives the range: whether the part is OEM or aftermarket, whether your existing frame is square enough to reuse, and whether the glass pack is a standard size or a custom cut. Every job gets that number in writing before we start, and the work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the install isn’t right, we make it right for a full year, parts and labor, no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
If you’re dealing with a torn bottom sweep or loose hinge screws, go ahead and take a look yourself. Those are five-minute fixes for anyone with a screwdriver and the right part. But here’s the honest line: anything that involves removing the door slab, adjusting the frame, or touching the glass pack is a different category. A full-size CGI door slab runs 90 to 140 pounds. A slip during removal means a cracked glass unit, a shredded gasket, or worse. Torsion on the hinge side is real, and we’ve repaired plenty of DIY cosmetic fixes that became structural problems because the underlying sag was never addressed.
If it belongs on the page, I’ll put it there: the number, the timeframe, or the trade-off. For most of the installs we quote across Los Angeles, the labor is the smaller half of the bill, and the peace of having the hardware seated correctly on day one is worth it. Call us at (682) 281-2168 and we’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s a DIY Saturday project or a service call.
FAQs
A properly installed CGI door slab in Los Angeles should last 15 to 20 years before the frame or slab needs major work, though sun-facing doors may need weather stripping and hinge attention around year 5. Coastal air accelerates hardware corrosion, so homes in Venice or Playa del Rey often need hardware replacement a few years earlier than inland neighborhoods. Sean Mackey and our install team see this pattern constantly across Los Angeles, and it’s why we stock corrosion-resistant hardware on the truck.
Weather stripping, hinges, and lock gearboxes are repairs we do in place all the time, and they usually solve the issue for another 5 to 10 years. A failed insulated glass unit or a cracked slab generally means replacement. We’ll tell you which one you need at the estimate, not after the door is in pieces. Call (682) 281-2168 and describe the symptom; we’ll give you a straight answer before scheduling anything.
Most single-part replacements, like hinges or weather stripping, take 30 to 60 minutes once we’re on site. A full slab replacement takes 2 to 4 hours from door-off to final clean-up. If we’re replacing the frame as well, budget a half day. You’ll see our live arrival time before we show up, and we’ll send photos of the finished work before we leave.
We keep common items on the truck: sweeps, seals, hinges, and lock hardware that fit the most common CGI series. Custom glass packs and full slabs are ordered per job and typically arrive within 5 business days in Los Angeles. We also stock compatible hardware for PGT, CWS, and ES Windows doors, so if you have a mixed house, we’ve got it covered in one visit.
